HIDDEN CULTURE AND WILDLIFE
Tour Itinerary in brief
Day 01
Overnight at Amaya Lake, Dambulla
Ayubowan! You will be met at Colombo International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Dambulla.
In the afternoon, leave for a cycling tour in a rural village in Sigiriya and you will have the opportunity to meet with the local villagers. You can help in some of their daily tasks, such as farming and cooking, or even be taken on a bullock cart ride through a banana plantation, tasting the ripe bananas along the way! Afterward, enjoy Dosa and Curry cooked by local villagers.
Day 02
Overnight at Amaya Lake, Dambulla
Drive to Polonnaruwa, another World Heritage Site, containing the well-preserved monuments of the medieval capital of Sri Lanka, located amongst undulating woodland. The well-preserved ruins of Polonnaruwa tell a story of Buddhism, royalty, kingship, war, and power, and provide you with the opportunity to experience the grandeur of this period and marvel at the artistry of the island's early craftsmen.
This afternoon you will be picked up and taken to your Jeep safari in Minneriya / Kaudulla National Park depending on where the elephants are! This is the best time of day to see the animals. You can enjoy gazing at the herds of elephants as well as many other animals you may come across, then head back to your hotel at sundown.
Day 03
Overnight at Cinnamon Citadel, Kandy
This morning you will have the chance to climb Sigiriya Rock- we would recommend early morning to avoid the crowds and heat! You can take your time climbing the rock and the rewards at the top will be worth it! Upon reaching the top of Sigiriya spend time taking in the exhilarating views which go on for miles and ponder the ancient ruins where an ancient civilization once lived. *Make sure you bring water with you as it’s difficult to find a vendor who sells it once you have begun your walk-up.
Depart and head south towards Sri Lanka's spectacular hill country, en-route visit a spice garden in Matale. Visit the Kandy Temple which houses the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha.
Day 04
Overnight at Cinnamon Citadel, Kandy
In the morning leave for a day excursion to Nuwara Eliya. The most scenic drive in the country as you pass through tea country with the mountains carpeted in tea, numerous waterfalls and tea pickers.
Head back to Kandy by road, en-route stop at a tea factory to see the processing and taste some of Sri Lanka's famous tea.
Day 05
Overnight at EKHO Surf, Bentota
